PROGRAMS

Students, tourists and members of the public are invited to participate in ASUPMATOMA’s exciting environmental programs and activities which take place from July 15 through the end of March each year in Rancho Punta San Cristobal, located just 15 minutes north of Cabo San Lucas.  ASUPMATOMA’s programs and activities include:

Adopt a Sea Turtle

Spend a morning or afternoon in Rancho Punta San Cristobal with local biologists and conservationists touring the sea turtle camps and environmental preserves belonging to founder of ASUPMATOMA, René Pinal and his family, while learning about these endangered species, the problems they face, and steps being taken to protect them from extinction.

At the end of the session, participants are invited to adopt their own baby sea turtle, which they then name and return safely to the sea.  The proud moms and dads of their new baby sea turtles will receive an official certificate of adoption stating their name, the name of their sea turtle, and an oath promising to protect the environment and share their knowledge with others.

Future Biologists

Future Biologists is an interactive educational program, whereby students between the ages of 13 and 18 spend a week on the sea turtle preserves in Rancho Punta San Cristobal (15 minutes north of Cabo San Lucas) working side by side with the professional biologists day-to-day to protect the endangered sea turtles along the beaches.

As future biologists, students learn how to operate a sea turtle camp and are given various activities and responsibilties, such as collecting sea turtle eggs along the beaches, assisting in releasing the baby sea turtles to the ocean, observing the sea turtles at ASUPMATOMA’s sea turtle nursery, picking up trash along the beaches, and distributing information about the endangered sea turtles to encourage public involvement.

Throughout the week, students will also enjoy eco-friendly activities on the beach, such as camping, hiking, swimming, and games.

Friendly Business of the Sea Turtle

Friendly Business of the Sea Turtle is a program that encourages businesses in Los Cabos and throughout the world to help ASUPMATOMA in its vital international efforts to save the endangered sea turtles of Baja California Sur, Mexico, through volunteer and sponsorship opportunities.  If your business would like to learn more about sponsorship and volunteer opportunities with our organization, please contact us via our web site so we can get back to you as soon as possible.

Daddy, Don’t Eat the Sea Turtles

Daddy, Don’t Eat the Sea Turtles is an environmental program created to educate and raise public awareness about the endangered sea turtles and environment, and in particular, encourage the citizens of Los Cabos, and throughout Mexico, to stop the consumption of eggs and meat of sea turtles which is still considered a delicacy.  Designed for children, the participants are asked to collect their trash and carry it to their house to recycle and re-use what they can, while spreading the word about how citizens can help save the endangered sea turtles by putting an end to their consumption.
